A warm WELCOME to Middle School at OKM!
Life in middle school can be an exciting, challenging, and rewarding time. I will be here to help you along the way :-)
One of the keys to success is being organized. Staying on top of your school work, and getting caught up when absent is YOUR responsibility in Middle School. Thus, I have designed this website to HELP YOU!
You and your parents will find all kinds of useful information about my courses. Use it to find out more about upcoming assignments, projects, and tests as well as exploring other valuable links and resources.
ATTENDANCE
Please call the school 870-5108 to report any absences. A quick email to me as well is also appreciated. If you know ahead of time, do email me as well or send a note with your child.
Students should expect absences to have some impact on their academic achievement. Thus, we encourage parents to plan for holidays during the district scheduled breaks. In the past, Grade 7 students have found it difficult to master missed concepts. This is largely due to both increased content and pacing of lessons (especially in Math). Hands-on, exploratory, experiential learning is considered in the design of my lessons. Attending classes regularly is important and expected.
Students will get sick throughout the year. Staying home to recuperate (and prevent the spread of illnesses) is necessary.
Before returning, please check the website to see what you have missed. Come see me when you return to school. Together, we will get you caught up. As I teach over 200 students in a year, this will become your responsibility to come and see me if you have questions or need help. Doing so sooner rather than later - trust me on this:) - will prevent gaps in your learning and lead to success in Math and Science 7.
Caution: Since each Math lesson closely builds on the one before, please avoid scheduling appointments during Math if at all possible.
I am looking forward to being your teacher this year for Math and Science.
Welcome to OKM! We are going to have an awesome year of learning and growth together!
